As the Year Flies By

Every time I say I'm going to post more often I end up making a liar out of myself.

The wedding is only two months away.  I'm starting to get a little stressed over it.  Things are piling up pretty quickly.  I have to go with the groomsmen this weekend and get fitted for our tuxedos.  Otherwise.  I , the RSVPs were due a few days ago and we're wrapping up the list of attendees by the end of the week.  I think we'll start getting the catering and such prepared as early as next week.  The DJ's song book is due this weekend.  I thought we were almost finished with that, but every time I think we're done Megan tells me we have another song to choose.  The good news is that when we turn in the song book, we will also be paying off the DJ.  The hall is paid off, and most (if not all) of the decorations are ordered.  There is still some assembly required, but besides food and drinks, the major expenses are already taken care of.

I'm pretty excited about how well the Penguins are doing lately.  They went on a long winning streak, and they're pretty close to clinching the conference.  They won tonight against Montreal, and I think a win on Friday against Boston gives them #1 in the East almost assuredly.  If they can get the rest of their good players back from their injuries, I feel like they have a good chance at the Cup this year.

The Senate denied Obama's plans to pass gun control legislation today.  I am EXTREMELY pleased by that development.  Obama, on the other hand, was not.

The Boston massacre has been at the forefront of my mind for the last few days, though.  I've found concentrating on other things difficult because I have been thinking about it so much.  It's pretty disturbing, to be honest.  Last year I was thinking about trying to get into shape to run the marathon in Pittsburgh.  I'm no where near where I need to be to do that, but now I'd be concerned about doing it even if I was.  I had not heard about what was going on due to a pretty serious filter on the internet at work on Monday until I was listening to the radio on the way home.  I am pretty sure I denied three phone calls so I wouldn't have to miss what was being said and was fairly upset by the time I got home.  This is a real tragedy, and since I only somewhat remember 9-11, it's really the first one to hit home with me.  People can be really evil.  I don't know how else to put it, even though that disturbs me beyond what I have the appropriate words to explain.

Otherwise, the debate about the Affordable Care Act seems to be heating up.  As more and more people recognize just how awful this legislation is and what kind of problems it is going to create, people have begun to switch sides.  Even Democrats have voiced concerns or objections to the bill, and I really think that there could be a chance to repeal it very soon.  I sure hope that happens.

I'm not sure how I stand on the whole Gay Marriage thing, though.  I really want to say that the government honestly just doesn't have any business sticking it's nose into marriage, but right now marriage is really deeply ingrained in our government.  Separating the two would not be easy, and right now the law is denying the benefits of marriage to a duo of the same sex who are willing to make the same commitment as a couple of the opposite sex.  I just have an issue with government redefining marriage, though, when it has been a social and religious aspect of our combined culture for thousands of years.  I just don't like to give the government that kind of power over personal, and in many cases, religious matters.  Any how, I'm still undecided and would love to hear arguments for both sides.

Well, I've got to get going.  It's getting late.

Good night,
Joshua
